SOME INFORMATION ABOUT SHORASHIM 2008
  • Shorashim 2008 is dedicated to two great contributors to Israeli folk dance who we lost this year, MIRA ASHRIEL z"l and MOTI ELFASI z”l.    Mira, together with her husband YOAV,  taught generations of dancers,  performers, choreographers and session leaders including DANNY UZIEL, who was MIRA's dance partner in YOAV’s troupe.   Yoav will be joined by his daughter, RAKEFET, on this special weekend of remembrance, together with DANNY UZIEL.  In addition, local dance leaders, including RUTH GOODMAN, DANNY POLLOCK & SARA BURNBAUM will  remember MOTI ELFASI by teaching some of his classic dances.  MOTI’s son, YARON, a choreographer and dance leader in his own right, has been invited.
  • Having been transformed into an "urban camp" 13 years ago, Shorashim remains on Broadway with all events at Bridge for Dance, a professional dance studio with air-conditioning  and a great wooden dance floor (especially for those who still love to dance barefoot).
  • Shorashim continues the tradition of providing the best teachers at an affordable cost.  Regular rates per session are about the same as last year.  By popular request, we are offering a special reduced rate for the whole weekend of only $140.  This weekend rate will guarantee that you can attend all workshops and parties over three days and four nights, even if we close admission to others because we are full.
  • You can pick and choose the workshop(s) and party/marathon nights that are appropriate for you, which can result in a considerable savings. Make your plans based on the preliminary schedule listed above.
  • Much of the day is free, with workshops by our guest teachers scheduled in mid-afternoon, so you can sleep late or take advantage of the numerous attractions in New York City during part of the day.
  • All registration will be on-site and there will be no formal pre-registration. However, reservations for those coming from out-of-town will be accepted.  Since space may be limited, entry will be on a first come-first serve basis and latecomers will be admitted as space permits to each event.  Shabbat observers may pay prior to or after Shabbat for Friday night and/or Saturday events.
  • As a courtesy to visitors to New York City attending Shorashim, a list of reasonably priced hostels and hotels within walking distance of Bridge for Dance will be provided, if requested.
  • A video will also be available of all the dances taught at the weekend from Ben Hole (who also has videos of previous Shorashim weekends).
